I've always thought of myself as a rational, considerate, balanced person with one eye on objective thinking. I've always aimed to avoid being a judgmental person and if I had to judge another human being, it would be on how they treated other people, how they behaved. Martin Luther King referred to it as '..the content of a man's character'.
Now, I'm no saint not by a long stretch. I've been told I can think negatively of people. Often I can be a harsh critic. Not because I don't care, actually it is because I do care that I criticize. In my little world, if you truly were indifferent, you would have no opinion or feelings at all, right? In answer to the question: "what is the opposite of love? It is not hatred but indifference".
I am critical of government because I know once you vote there is also the democratic right to complain if you believe your country is not being run they way you think it should, regardless of whether you're a political scientist or Joe Blow. Granted there is no perfectly run democracy on Earth. But there are and should be the aspiration to do it better. Politics is a very complex area, one which I am no expert on but I try to avoid being too insulated from who's taking my taxes and who's making laws I have to obey. I have attempted to express my opinions in an objective, clear fashion with due care and attention to avoiding harassment, individual attacks and manipulation of truths or untruths for that matter.
I have attempted to publish my concerns on the intense lack of balance and objectivism on this whole 'global warming' hysteria that has gripped certain quarters of society. I have posted to a well-known site devoted to all things political in Ireland only to have the 'members' roll their eyes to heaven and criticize my comments and contributions and lock the thread I had created. Now, I'm no sissy, I can take criticism in fact I'm a lot tougher than that. Went to a tough school, was given a hard time by my so-called peers like many of my colleagues, friends and contemporaries so I'm not looking for sympathy or psychological profiling thank you very much.
My point is just this. I've witnessed an what I can only describe as censorship of my democratic right to have an opinion about political enforcement on my life. I'm actually not a politically charged person. I believe if the cornerstones of civilization (justice, health, education, prosperity) once looked after by a responsible, fair-minded Government mindful of the weaknesses of society and the economy, should be allowed get on with the job to the point where I don't really have to think about them until there are general elections, referendums etc. That way I can get on with my life, working hard at my job, my relationships my own progress as a human being.
I've never allowed myself to become too comfortable with the political parties who occupy the front benches in the Irish parliament. Maintaining some distance or, objectivity if you will. I've not thought about them that much. Until now. Since the May 2007 general election, I've spent way too much of my time thinking about these self-serving individuals to the point of writing directly to the ministers in question. Specifically the person who currently occupies Environment, Heritage and Local Government. I don't have a personal grudge against him. I don't know him and he doesn't know me. However, with regard to their current 'Green' drive, I have read many sites, blogs and forums for and against this left-wing hysteria about what used to be referred to as 'global warming'. I have so far not succeeded in obtaining a well balanced viewpoint on the subject. It's as if people who object to the Green agenda are somewhat, silenced.
There are many scientists proclaiming doubt that the World was indeed 'heating up' as per this 'Global Warming' mantra. The environmentalists have since very cleverly adopted the bullet-proof catch-all phrase: "Climate Change". Tomorrow you wake up and it's a half-degree warmer; Oops, climate change. the next day the temp drops a degree; Oops! more climate change. Very clever of these folks, the wind changes direction and it's climate change. When I was a lad, we had climate change... We called it something else though... let me see what was it now? Hmm... ...oh yes!!! We called it Summer, Autumn, Winter and if I'm not mistaken, Spring!
Interesting thing about these unelected bureaucrats who occupy this nebulous, authoritarian outfit I refer to lovingly as the Intermental Governing Pratts on Climate Control. I never voted for these people. No-one asked if it were ok to implement their laws in my country. No referendums, no debates. Nothing. Yet our government want to introduce their unreachable leftist rubbish into Ireland part of which includes bringing co2 levels back to 1990 levels.
(interestingly 1990 was right after the fall of the Berlin wall, the symbolic end of Socialism, they lost their stick and the anti-capitalists found refuge with the environment movement, coincidence?).
Now, I'm no bible-bashing, bedsheet wearing ultra-right-wing bigot. Far from it. I do believe in the responsible progress of humanity. We don't have to scorch the Earth as we go but there are signs of a shift to the left in world politics and just as the worlds civilisations are just beginning to taste freedom, along come the lefties with their calcifying albeit ludicrous attitude to how we advance civilization. Complete rubbish. There have been claims from eminent eco-hippies that the world's population should be brought down to one billion. From 6.5 billion as it is right now? How exactly do they plan to do this....?
As for their claims mankind is responsible for excess co2 in the atmosphere? Balderdash. The Earth had 1000's times more co2 in the upper atmosphere long before man fell out of the trees. One meteor the size of France wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago from dust and other materials coughed up into the atmosphere. One almighty belch from a volcano, and it would take 10 billion cars 500 years to equal two weeks worth of lavaland antics. If Mother Earth wants an ice-age, she'll get one. If she wants a global tropical climate, she'll get one and no action from mankind today, will stop her.
People are intelligent, rational beings and I do believe the best is before us but for the sake of humanity and this planet, don't be fooled by these well-funded propaganda machines. They're only goal is disruption and chaos. In Government, they rule by authority and not consensus. Object and you go to eco-prison baby! Demand debate. Insist on proof. View only facts and do so with careful objectivity. The results maybe surprising.
Environmentalists. Putting the 'mental' back in environmental.

In your next post, perhaps you can answer three questions:
1. Why does "left wing" mean the same thing as "totalitarianism"?
2. Why specifically are the Climate Change campaigners wrong.
3. What do you propose "Joe Blow" does in his daily life regarding the environment.
Regards,
Dan
